Richmond Kickers News Release
Richmond, VA - (Thursday, September 5th, 2002) - The Richmond Kickers outshot the Atlanta Silverbacks 25-4 enroute to a 1-1 tie. A 90th minute goal by defender Peter Luzak earned the Kickers a tie going into the second leg of the aggregate series. Richmond and Atlanta will take to the field again this Sunday to decide the winner of the first round playoff series.
Minute-By-Minute Highlights
1st Minute: Josh Henderson gets three quick shots on goal as his first shot is saved by GK Jeff Cassar. His second shot is cleared off the line by defender Gilbert Jean-Baptiste and his third shot ricochets off the crossbar and back to Cassar.
27th Minute: Henderson takes a nice pass from Kevin Jeffrey, traps the ball and takes a left-footed shot that Cassar is able to collect.
32nd Minute: Off a Tony Williams corner kick, Kevin Jeffrey settles the ball just inside the 18 yard box and cranks a left footed shot that curves just over the far post.
34th Minute: A defensive giveaway gives Bryan Namoff the opportunity to thread a beautiful through pass to Josh Henderson. He's all alone on Cassar but the 'keeper is able to make a great save on Henderson's shot towards the left post.
36th Minute: GOAL Brian Piesner takes a corner kick for the 'Backs. His short service is given right back to him. He crosses the ball to the far post where an on-rushing James Wall heads the ball into the back of the net. Silverbacks 1, Kickers 0
37th Minute: Alan Woods takes a dangerous header towards the Richmond goal that bounces off the crossbar and out of bounds. 41st Minute: Tony Williams sends a beautiful cross from the right side of the goal. David Hayes one-touch shot is just wide from 12 yards out.
43rd Minute: A handball foul is called in the box on Atlanta and Richmond is awarded a penalty kick. Josh Hendersons kick is saved but Atlanta encroached so Richmond gets another chance. David Hayes' shot was just to Cassar's left but he was able to make the save.
68th Minute: Ihor Dotsenko sends a quick cross into the box. Kevin Jeffrey's header from 15 yards out is just wide of the left post.
82nd Minute: Kevin Knight sends a ball over the Atlanta defense from the left side of the field. Josh Henderson doesn't get the touch on it he was looking for and his header goes just wide of the far post.
90th Minute: GOAL Ben Strawbridge sends an extremely long throw-in into the box that Peter Luzak heads into the right side-netting. Silverbacks 1, Kickers 1
