Richmond Kickers News Release
RICHMOND, VA - (Monday) - The Richmond Kickers are proud to dedicate their next home game on Saturday, April 8 to the loving memory of former pro player and adored youth soccer coach, Kofi Nti, who passed away suddenly on March 26, 2017.
Kickers pro players will wear black arm bands during the game against Louisville City FC at 5pm at City Stadium. Fans are encouraged to pay tribute to Nti's memory with a minute of standing applause when the game clock reaches the 20th minute, in honor of his jersey number when he played professional soccer with the Kickers in 2005 and 2006. His legacy will be celebrated with a special halftime presentation when fans and youth players will be invited onto the field to offer the Nti family a custom-made #20 jersey.
Involved across all levels of the Richmond Kickers for 12 years, from the rec program to the professional team, Nti coached hundreds of youth players of all ages for more than a decade. He most recently acted as head coach of the Kickers U12 Boys South, U12 Boys Elite and U13 Boys Elite teams. The 40-year old native of Accra, Ghana spent two years with the Richmond Kickers professional team, making 18 appearances and earning a league title with the 2006 USL Championship team.
The Richmond community contributed over $34,000 in donations in less than 36 hours to assist the transport of his remains to his family in Ghana.
