Richmond Kickers News Release
RICHMOND, VA - (Wednesday, June 11, 2014) - The Richmond Kickers announced today that they will loan defender Shane Johnson to the Harrisburg City Islanders, pending USSF approval. The Kickers reserve the right to recall Johnson at any point during the season.
"This is a good fit for both clubs," commented Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Director of Soccer. "Harrisburg currently has several defensive injuries and Shane needs the opportunity to compete for a starting position."
Johnson signed with the Kickers in 2012 after a standout collegiate career at Longwood University, making an immediate impact with the starting lineup in his debut season. Notching his first professional goal on June 1, 2012 against the Harrisburg City Islanders, he also contributed to eight shutouts as a rookie. The native of Ashburn, VA added a goal and an assist en route to the Kickers 2013 Regular Season Championship before making eight appearances with the Kickers to start the 2014 season.
Doubling as an offensive force with three goals and six assists, the stalwart defender contributed to 17 shutouts in 71 appearances at Longwood. Named NSCAA Second Team Men's Soccer Scholar All-East Region following his senior season, he is a three-time Longwood Scholar Athlete and a Second Team All-Atlantic Soccer Conference honoree.
