
Keys Push Past Pelicans With Pitching

On a cool, crisp night at Harry Grove Stadium, the Keys blanked the Pelicans, 2-0. The win was Frederick's first of the year at Harry Grove Stadium. RHP Jacob Rasner tossed five scoreless innings en route to his first victory in the Orioles organization and 1B Tyler Townsend belted his first home run of the season in the eighth inning to help ensure the Keys victory. With the win, Frederick improved to 2-2 on the early season.
After pitching out of a jam in the first inning, Rasner cruised through his final four innings of the night. With men on the corners and one out in the top of the first, 3B Michael Olt sharply grounded to the short. SS Garabez Rosa played the grounded the ball perfectly on a hop. Rosa tagged second for one out and quickly threw over to first to complete to double play.
In the bottom of the first, CF Kyle Hudson led off the inning with a bunt single. After he advanced to second on a wild pitch, LF Steve Bumbry hit a double to left-centerfield which easily scored Hudson to give the Keys a 1-0 advantage after the first inning.
Rasner and Pelicans starting pitcher, RHP Joe Wieland, controlled the next four innings of the game. Rasner and Wieland each exited after five innings of work. Rasner allowed no runs on three hits while Wieland surrendered one run on four hits.
RHP Dan Klein replaced Rasner in the sixth and picked up where he left off. Klein threw three scoreless innings in relief. RHP Sean Gleason pitched a scoreless ninth inning as he picked up his first save of the year.
Rasner improved to 1-0 on the season while Wieland fell to 0-1.
Frederick and Myrtle Beach will play the rubbermatch of the three-game series on Thursday evening at Harry Grove Stadium. LHP Nathan Moreau (1-0, 0.00) will start for the Keys while LHP Chad Bell (1-0, 0.00) gets the nod for the Pelicans. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
