Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick got off to a great start with a first inning solo home run from 2B Ryan Adams to take an early lead, but the lead would be the Keys last as they ended on the wrong side of a 4-3 contest against division rival Potomac in the series finale Sunday afternoon.
The Keys are now 10-18 in one-run games and 11-24 against division foes.
Adams home run was a soaring blast to left field, for his first Carolina League home run. He was injured in the Keys sixth game of the season, straining his groin on April 14th in Myrtle Beach, SC. Adams returned for a two-game stint in early May before re-aggravating the injury. Now back, the former second round pick gave the Keys a lift putting them atop 1-0.
Keys starter Zach Britton struggled early beginning his outing with two walks and a hit batsman to load the bases woithout an out. He would wiggle out of the inning allowing just one run, but the Keys could never regain the lead.
Trailing 3-1 in the sixth inning, the Keys started to rally against the Nationals bullpen.
Frederick 1B Brandon Waring doubled to right field to leadoff the inning. He would score two batters later when 3B Tyler Henson lined an RBI-single to center field bringing Frederick within 3-2. Both Waring and Henson registered two-hit games.
Potomac would manufacture another insurance run in the sixth inning after a leadoff double from C Devin Ivany. 2B Dan Lyons put down a perfectly executed suicide squeeze to score Ivany re-establishing the two-run Nationals lead at 4-2.
The Keys battled back for a run in the seventh inning on a two-out RBI-single from Waring but Frederick could muster nothing more in the one-run defeat.
After a day off, Frederick heads to Kinston for a three game series beginning Tuesday, July 7th at 7:00 p.m. at Grainger Stadium. RHP Pedro Beato will start for the Keys in the series opener.
Frederick returns home for a seven-game homestand beginning Friday, July 10th at 7:00 p.m. against Myrtle Beach. The first 1,000 fans through the gate Friday night will receive a free Keys Baseball Card Set presented by Extra Innings.
