Keys Cruise Over Cats Again

Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Lynchburg fell 6-1 in Frederick on Saturday night and they now have dropped the first three games of the four-game set.

Frederick struck early for the second straight night as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning again. This time though they did it without a ball leaving the infield. The inning included two walks, two infield hits, an error and a balk. The first run came in on the balk and the second run was plated on an RBI infield single by Miguel Abreu.

In the fourth inning the Keys notched another run with a solo home run by Billy Rowell. The Keys added to their advantage with two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth. Jacob Julius roped a two-run double in the inning.

One highlight for Lynchburg was the 2010 debut for former Major Leaguer Bill Bray. The left-hander, who spent time in the big leagues in 2006, 2007 and 2008, tossed a scoreless frame in his return to the Carolina League. Bray missed almost all of last season and the first part of this year after having Tommy John surgery.

Keys starter Nate Nery did not allow a run through the first eight inning of the game as they left-hander matched his longest start of the season. The Hillcats finally chased Nery in the ninth inning after a lead-off double by Josh Fellhauer. Lynchburg avoided the shutout when Alex Buchholz drove-in Fellhauer with a sacrifice fly.

The loss went to starter Mark Serrano (2-3) for Lynchburg (24-32), who has now dropped the first three games of the four-game series. The win went to starter Nate Nery (4-5) for Frederick (33-23). The finale of the set is slated for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Harry Grove Stadium. Right-hander James Avery will head to the hill for the Hillcats opposite fellow righty Oliver Drake (1-2, 3.91). Tune-in for all the live action on 105.5 FM KD Country.
