ODESSA, TX. After approaching and interviewing nine candidates, the Odessa Roughnecks have received a verbal commitment from their first choice for he head coaching position. The search to fill this important roll began in October of last year and involved multiple, lengthy phone interviews and several visits from different candidates. As of Tuesday, January 13th, the team has agreed to terms with their inaugural coach over the phone. Contracts are being sent overnight and arrangements have been made to formally introduce this gentleman in Odessa on January 27, 2004.
"We looked hard at several factors in making our selection. First we recognized the need to have a great recruiter. The quality of players that come to Odessa may be the most valuable task on our coaches job description. Second, we feel strongly that our choice needed to be a gentleman who understands the indoor version of football. This will eliminate any early season time being wasted on a learning curve when we need to be winning games. Third, but most important, the leader of our troops needs to genuinely gleam with integrity and character. This coach excels in all three of these areas.", stated Tommy Benizio, Roughnecks team president.
Additionally, the Roughnecks have set the dates for both the first player tryouts and the cheerleaders auditions. Young ladies will have the opportunity to become local celebrities and be part of one of the most exciting set of events in the Basin ever - Friday through Sunday, February 27th, 28th, and 29th. Times and locations are being determined by Roughnecks Cheerleading headquarters, the Shout Dance Studio. Applications are now being excepted at the team's offices.
One the grid iron side of the business, players can now register for the first ever Odessa Roughnecks open tryout to be held on Saturday, February 14th, also at a location to be determined.
