
Kevin Anderson Named ECHL Athletic Trainer of the Year

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, a two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," announced in conjunction with the ECHL that Thunder head athletic trainer Kevin Anderson has been named recipient of the ECHL Athletic Trainer of the Year award, presented by Reebok Hockey, for the 2010-11 season.
"Kevin has been with the Thunder for all of our six seasons and continues to do an amazing job of taking care of our hockey players," said Thunder president Dan Chapman. "He is very highly regarded throughout the ECHL and all of minor league hockey and I can't think of anyone more deserving of this prestigious award."
Anderson was selected for the award in voting by the league's head athletic trainers and equipment managers. Anderson will receive a prize package from Reebok Hockey in recognition of receiving the award.

He recently completed his sixth season with the Thunder as head athletic trainer. He has worked 469 consecutive regular season and Kelly Cup Playoff games in the ECHL since being named to his position in November 2005 and added to his resume in January, when he was named to the league's All-Star training staff for the third time in his career.
A certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, he continues to work closely with the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks, National Hockey League affiliates of the Thunder, in monitoring and reporting sports medicine updates for assigned prospects.
Anderson worked six years as an assistant athletic trainer and instructor at University of the Pacific under the direction of current Director, Chris Pond and also served as head athletic trainer for the Magic Johnson Summer Basketball Camps and Charity Games.
Anderson was also head athletic trainer for the Stockton Lightning of arenafootball2 from 2006-09 and was recognized as af2 Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2008. He has assisted the Stockton Ports baseball team, various Professional Bull Riding (PBR) Events as a volunteer and worked two years as an athletic training intern for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League.
He was awarded his master's degree in sports medicine from University of the Pacific and his bachelor's degree in pre-physical therapy from the University of Nevada, Reno.
OPENING NIGHT AND TICKET INFORMATION
The Thunder will open the 2011-12 preseason on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. against the Bakersfield Condors at Stockton Arena. Opening Night and information on "Fan Fest," the traditional season-launching event that offers the ultimate experience in fan interaction, for the Thunder's seventh season of hockey in the Central Valley will be announced soon.
A proud affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, the Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine for the third straight year, led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the sixth consecutive season in 2010-11.
