Western New York Flash News Release
Elma, N.Y. (Wednesday, November 13, 2013) - Western New York Flash forward Samantha Kerr has earned Professional Footballers Australia's top women's award, being named 2012-13 Women's Footballer of the Year. Kerr was one of three final nominees for the honor and ended up taking home the award after being selected by her peers.
In her first season with the Flash, Kerr made an immediate impact by tallying two goals in the first two contests. The Perth native would go on to finish with six goals (third highest behind Abby Wambach and Carli Lloyd) and five assists, second on the team.
Prior to arriving in Western New York, Kerr helped lead Sydney FC to its second W-League Championship. Kerr scored the game-winning goal in the Sky Blues' win over the Melbourne Victory, her ninth and final goal of the season. She would go on to be named W-League Player of the Year.
After helping lead the Flash to the 2013 NWSL Regular Season Championship, Kerr has returned to Sydney FC on loan for the offseason. The W-League team is back in action on Saturday when it hosts the Newcastle Jets.
