MORRISTOWN, N.J. (Nov. 13, 2013) - Sky Blue FC defender Melanie Booth announced her retirement from professional soccer today.
Booth, a member of the bronze-medal winning Canadian side at the 2012 London Olympics, joined Sky Blue FC as part of the NWSL's original National Team player allocation process.
"We all want to thank Mel for her contributions to Sky Blue's inaugural NWSL season," said Sky Blue FC head coach Jim Gabarra. "Congratulations to Mel on a successful career and good luck in the next phase of life."
During her career, the 29-year-old native of Burlington, Ontario, was capped 65 times for her country, and was involved in the squad for many of their major achievements. She was a member of the team that won the silver medal at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Canada 2002 and also won silver medals at the 2002 and 2006 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup. Booth was also a member of the gold-medal winning team at the 2011 Pan-American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
After playing for the University of Florida Gators at the college level, Booth started her club career with the Toronto Lady Lynx. Among her other stops were the Vancouver Whitecaps and, most recently, Sky Blue FC.
