Lexington, KY – The Lexington Legends community relations department announced today that the bookmark design by 10-year-old Kelsey Davis of Second Street School was chosen as honorable mention in the 2004 "Hit the Books" reading incentive program bookmark design contest.

The contest is a joint effort between the Lexington Legends and Chick-fil-A. Students at participating schools each receive a bookmark. For every book the student reads, the teacher initials a base. When the student has all three bases and home plate initialed by the teacher, he/she may bring the bookmark to the Legends box office to exchange it for two tickets to a specified Legends home game. The program runs through April 1st.

Maria's entry was chosen from more than 15,000 entries from elementary school students in Fayette and surrounding counties. For her efforts, Kelsey will receive a Legends prize pack including Legends merchandise and free membership in the 2004 Little Legends Kids Club. The school with the most bookmarks redeemed on their designated night will win a luncheon assembly provided by the Lexington Legends & Chick-fil-A.

This is the fourth year that the Lexington Legends have sponsored the Hit The Books program. Over 65,000 central Kentucky school children have participated in the reading program.
