Kelly, Rox Power Past Pride; 8-1

(NASHUA, N.H., May 30, 2008) Brockton Rox starting pitcher John Kelly improved to 2-0 on the season after tossing a gem versus the Pride, going seven and two-thirds shut-out innings, allowing just three hits, and one walk, while striking out eleven.

Jud Thigpen broke the game open in the top of the ninth, when he hit a towering grand slam over the left field wall off of Pride reliever Jason Paul to make it 8-0 Brockton. It was Thigpen's fourth hit of the game, and gave him five RBI to finish the night.

Pride starter Nicolas Suero fell to 0-2 on the season despite a well pitched performance, lasting seven and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs, on nine hits, while walking four and striking out one. Paul, who came into the game for Suero in the eighth, pitched one and a third innings, allowing six runs on four hits, two walks, and a strike out.

Nashua's Dennis Abreu accounted for three of the Pride's four hits on the night, finishing the evening 3-for-3, with a walk and a stolen base. Abreu came into the game already second in the Can-Am League in batting average and is now nine for his last twelve.

Nashua falls to 3-5 on the season. The Rox improve to 5-4. Brockton returns to Historic Holman Stadium on Saturday night, when the Pride send Reid Willett to the mound. The Rox will counter with Chris McDonough. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
