
Keesee, Smith guide Cats past Aviators

David Keesee was 2-for-4 with a homer and two runs batted and Mike Smith hurled his fourth complete game of the season as the Cats topped Coastal Bend 5-2 Sunday night at LaGrave Field. The victory snapped the Cats' brief two-game losing streak and improved their second-half record to 27-15. It was the team's 57th win overall this season.
Smith (10-6) went the distance, allowing two runs on eight hits, striking out six and walking two.
The Aviators scored their only runs in the second inning when Mike Guerrero hit a solo homer to left and Ben Tinius delivered a two-out RBI single.
Fort Worth got a run in the third inning on a run-scoring single by Terrell Merriman scoring Terence Green to shorten the Coastal Bend lead to 2-1.
The Cats tied the game when David Keesee hit his first professional home run to leadoff the fifth inning. They took a 3-2 lead when Green socred on a Carlos Adolfo infield single.
Fort Worth added insurance runs in the seventh inning on a passed ball and in the eighth inning on a Keesee RBI single.
Marc Acierno (2-6) took the loss for the Aviators as he allowed three runs on nine hits through 5 2/3 innings.
Game 2 of the series is on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. T.J. Hendricks (6-2) will pitch for the Cats with Dan Henderson (3-4) on the hill for Coastal Bend.
