July 8, 2015 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Keene Swamp Bats News Release

Keene saw their three game winning streak halted as the Swamp Bats fell to the Northern Division leading Laconia Muskrats Wednesday night by a score of 5-3.

The Muskrats struck first in the top of the second inning on an RBI triple by shortstop Vinny DeMaria to drive in Brian Mims, before the next batter James Davison hit a double to score DeMaria and give Laconia a 2-0 lead.

Keene would score in the bottom of the third inning after stringing together three consecutive base hits, the final one by Garrett Christman to drive in Dan Cellucci and cut the lead in half to 2-1.

After Laconia scored a run in the top fifth inning to make it a 3-1 score, the Swamp Bats responded in the bottom of the inning on a two run homerun by Ryan Karl for his third home run in his last four games and the game was tied 3-3 after five complete innings.

Laconia took the lead again in the seventh inning on an RBI double by Deon Stafford, driving in James Davison to give the Muskrats a 4-3 lead through seven.

They would add another run onto that in the top of the eighth on a Brian Mims solo homerun to lead off the inning and extend the lead to 5-3.

Laconia pitching held the Swamp Bats off the scoreboard for the final four innings, including closer Austin Easter retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth and would hold on for the 5-3 victory.

The Swamp Bats fall to 7-17 on the season and suffer their first loss in the month of July. Keene has Thursday off before traveling to Sanford to play the Mainers on Friday with first pitch at 6:30.
