June 5, 2006 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Sporting Kansas City News Release
Turning The Corner
Having ended its three-game losing streak with a 1-1 tie this past weekend against the New York Red Bulls, the Kansas City Wizards will be looking to get back in the win column this weekend when they travel to Columbus to take on the Crew, Saturday, June 10th at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Wizards are 2-0 this season against the Crew, having topped the team from Columbus 3-1 in Arrowhead on opening day, and 1-0 in Crew Stadium in week four. But unlike at the start of the season, the Crew are riding high having gone unbeaten in four out of their last five games, including a 2-1 win last week at Western Conference-leading FC Dallas. Should Kansas City win this weekend it would mark the first time since 2004 that it has won three games over any one team in a single season. In 2004 the Wizards went 3-1-0 against Colorado and Dallas, but they have never beaten Columbus three times in a season. Although three wins against one team in a season would be nice, three points would be even better. After the first ten weeks of play Kansas City and Columbus are tied for second place in the Eastern Conference with 14 points and identical 4-4-2 records and a win would give the victor sole possession of the second place spot in the East.
Wizards' Official adidas World Cup Watch Parties
The kickoff to the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany is now less than one week
away, and therefore so is the Wizards' first Official adidas World Cup Watch
Party at the Arrowhead Pavilion. Fans will be able to gather at Arrowhead
for every single one of the U.S.'s World Cup matches and join with each
other in cheering on Kansas City's Jimmy Conrad, Eddie Johnson, and Josh
Wolff, and the rest of their U.S. World Cup Team teammates. The Red, White
& Blue's first match, against the Czech Republic, is next Monday, June 12th,
and it kicks off at 10:55 a.m. CT. Doors at the Arrowhead Pavilion open at
10:30 a.m. Thanks to Fazoli's Restaurant, fans in attendance at the free
event will be offered some greats deals on food, starting out as low as $5
for a complete meal, making Monday's U.S./Czech Republic Watch Party at
Arrowhead a great reason for an extended lunch break. Following Monday's
match, the U.S. takes on Italy on Saturday, June 17th at 2:00 p.m. CT, and
Ghana on Thursday, May 22nd at 8:55 a.m. CT. The Wizards will be hosting
the June 17th watch party at the Arrowhead Practice Facility and then return
to the Arrowhead Pavilion for the U.S./Ghana match on the 22nd. The Wizards
will continue to host their Official adidas World Cup Watch Parties for each
U.S. game should they advance in the Cup. Be sure to visit
