Nashville Kats News Release

NASHVILLE (April 10, 2006) - April events have proved the need for disaster preparedness. Responding to the community need, the Nashville Kats have joined the American Red Cross in urging blood donors to donate blood now.

The Kats are participating in community blood drives Tuesday, April 11, Wednesday, April 12, and Thursday, April 13 at the Nashville Blood Center, 2201 Charlotte Ave. The Center is open for blood donations from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm each day. Walk-ins are always accepted and blood donation appointments may be made by calling 1-800-GIVE LIFE.

"Blood must be donated before an emergency," said Patricia Callicoat, chief executive officer of the Tennessee Valley Blood Services Region. "When tragedy strikes, like our recent tornado outbreak, it is too late to donate. It takes three days for blood to be tested and prepared for transfusion. Blood must always be ready."

The Red Cross encourages everyone to donate blood. The basic donor eligibility to give blood and save lives is being at least 17 years old, weighing 110 pounds, feeling well, and knowing of no reason why you cannot donate.

"The Nashville Kats have recognized the community need for blood," said Callicoat. "The Kats are generously providing game tickets to their April 21st game against Kansas City. The ticket drawings will be held April 18th. We hope everyone visiting the blood center from now through April 17 will enter to win tickets. We appreciate the Kats for their life saving commitment to our community."

The Kats are also providing entertainment for community donors at the Blood Center. The Nashville Kats' dance team, the Music City Kittens, will entertain donors from 3:30 - 4:30 pm on Tuesday, April 11. The Kats' mascot, Kool Kat, prowls into the Center on Wednesday, April 12 from 3:30- 4:30 pm. On Wednesday, April 13 Kats linemen Charlie Morris and Carey Clayton will meet and greet fans and donors from 3:30 - 4:30 pm.
