Nashville Kats News Release

NASHVILLE (Jan. 18, 2005) – The Nashville Kats waived defensive specialist Joey Flora and lineman Chris Royle on Tuesday as head coach Pat Sperduto trimmed the team's roster in order to meet the AFL league maximum of 24 active players by Sunday, January 23.

Thirty-three players remain on the Kats roster heading into the last full week before the start of the regular season. Four players will be reassigned to the practice squad after the final cuts are made.

"All of the guys on the roster have been competing hard for the last couple of weeks," Sperduto said. "We have some tough decisions to make in the next couple days, but that means that we have some good football players in our camp."

Flora signed with the Kats after playing two years with the Ohio Valley Greyhounds of the National Indoor Football League. He was a rookie in the AFL, and was competing against a veteran group of defensive specialists. Flora played collegiately at Indiana University (Pennsylvania).

Royle tried the AFL after spending last season playing for the af2 Tennessee Valley Vipers. Royle found himself the odd man out on an extremely athletic Kats line. Before professional football, Royle made 41 career starts at Lafayette College, where he was two-time All-Patriot League at center.

The Nashville Kats begin play in the Arena Football League's Central Division on January 28 with a game at Columbus. The expansion franchise, which is owned by Tennessee Titans owner K.S. "Bud" Adams, Jr., and boasts country music superstar Tim McGraw as a minority partner, will keep the name and identity of the previous Nashville Kats arena football franchise, which played in the AFL from 1997-2001. Tickets are available by phone at 615-565-4700, or through Katsonline.com.
