
Kats Add Four Players and Experience to Team

NASHVILLE- The Nashville Kats of the Arena Football League have come to terms with WR/DB Kenny Higgins, OL/DL Julius Franklin, OL/DL Demoine Adams and claimed WR/KR Carlos Wright off of waivers. As per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Wright (6-1 205 Tennessee State) comes to the Kats from the Chicago Rush where he excelled as a WR/KR for two seasons. In 2006, Wright emerged as one of the top return men in the league, registering 59 returns for 1,325 yards and three touchdowns that included games of 194, 144 and 135 return yard performances. Wright was also a threat on the defensive side of the ball, in his two seasons in Chicago; he recorded 28.5 total tackles in action.
Higgins (6-1 184 Toledo) enters his first year in the AFL after spending 2006 with the Memphis Explorers of af2. With the Explorers, Higgins was the team's leading receiver after pacing the team with 93 catches for 1,428 yards and 28 touchdowns. Higgins also excelled at Toledo where he had team records of most yards receiving in a game (233) and longest touchdown reception in a game (96-yards), finishing his career with 50 receptions for 745 yards.
Franklin (6-3 316 Bethune-Cookman) comes to the Kats after spending time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Giants of the NFL and the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe. A four-year starter at offensive tackle while at Bethune-Cookman, Franklin earned a plethora of awards including; All-Mid Eastern Athletic Conference honors and three lineman of the week selections. Franklin hardly gave up sacks during his time at Bethune-Cookman, including two seasons where he did not give up any (2002, 2003).
Adams (6-2 252 Nebraska) starts 2007 with the Kats after a stellar career at Nebraska and the 2006 season with the Evansville BlueCats of the United Indoor Football League. At Nebraska, Adams was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection and a three-time First-Team Academic All-Big 12 Selection. As a senior recorded 37 tackles and four sacks after starting nine of 14 games including an appearance in the 2002 Rose Bowl and as a junior had a team-high 5.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss and 12 quarterback hurries while starting all 12 games.
The Kats 2007 season is set to kick-off Thursday, March 1st when the club hosts the Columbus Destroyers. Nashville will compete in the AFL's Central Division, a talent-rich division that houses the past two ArenaBowl Champions (Chicago Rush 2006, Colorado Crush 2005) and added the Kansas City Brigade in a realignment change.
