Auburn Hills, MI - Shock center Kara Braxton was named to the WNBA's inaugural All-Rookie Team on Wednesday, receiving nine of a possible 12 votes. She joins Washington's Temeka Johnson, San Antonio's Katie Feenstra, Indiana's Tan White, and Sacramento's Chelsea Newton.

Braxton, the seventh overall selection in the 2005 WNBA Draft, averaged 6.9 points and 3.0 rebounds on the year while shooting 46.2 percent from the field in 33 games.

"Kara did a good job of giving us some energy and offensive production off the bench this season" said Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer, "and her inclusion on the All-Rookie team is a well-deserved honor. If she puts her mind to it, she can become one of the best post players in the game. She has all the physical tools, the size, and the agility to dominate, and watching her develop over the coming years is going to be a lot of fun for our fans."

The 6-6 Braxton established a Shock rookie record by scoring 18 points in her career debut connecting on 8-of-10 shots vs. Connecticut. Braxton posted career highs in scoring (20) vs. Houston on July 5, and rebounding (9) at Washington on August 27. Among rookies, Braxton ranked fourth in scoring, fifth in rebounding, third in field goal percentage, and sixth in blocked shots (0.39 bpg).

Johnson, the 2005 Rookie of the Year, averaged 9.3 points, 5.2 assists, 1.29 steals in a league rookie high 973 minutes played. Feenstra and White joined Johnson as unanimous selections to the team as each received 12 votes. Newton received 10 votes from the voting panel, which consisted of the WNBA's 13 head coaches. Each coach was asked to select five players regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team.
