Kansas City falls to Utah 67-50

Salt Lake City, UT - Quarterback Joe Germaine led the Utah Blaze (1-9) to their first victory of the 2008 Arena Football season. Germaine's Blaze defeated the Kansas City Brigade (1-8) 67-50 in front of 12,208 fans inside EnergySoultions Arena.

Ces'are Manning scored on Kansas City's first possession as D Bryant's pass bounced off the net and found its way into Manning's arms. Kansas City's 7-0 lead would be their only lead of the game. The Brigade would turn the ball over on downs and fumble at Utah's one yard line on the next two possessions.

Utah would score touchdowns on their first five possessions and hold a 33-21 lead at halftime.

Travis Coleman intercepted Joe Germaine on the opening possession of the second half. On the ensuing play Jerel Myers caught a 31 yard touchdown pass from D Bryant. Kansas City would pull within six as Utah led 33-27. Utah would outscore Kansas City by 11 for the rest of the game and cruise to a 17 point win.

Kansas City, who came into the game second in the league in pass defense, had no answers for the Utah offense. Germaine was almost flawless as he threw for 337 yards on 24-30 passing. Germaine threw eight touchdowns to four different receivers. Huey Whittaker led the way for the Blaze receiving core with 11 receptions for 117 yards and four touchdowns.

In his fifth start D Bryant had a very solid outing. Bryant was 30-37 for 266 yards and five touchdowns. Bryant would add two rushing touchdowns. For the first time as a starter D Bryant did not throw an interception. Bryant would lose one fumble late in the fourth quarter. Ces'are Manning shined for the second week and ended up with 13 receptions for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

Kansas City returns to Sprint Center after being on the road for two weeks. The Brigade will host the 2007 ArenaBowl runner-up the Columbus Destroyers (2-7). Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10th. Utah will host the Colorado Crush.

Game Notes

Kicker Peter Martinez set a Brigade franchise record with a 58 yard field goal.

Ces'are Manning had game highs in receptions (13) and receiving yards (128).

Kansas City had a season low two penalties.

Utah scored touchdowns on 10 of 11 possessions.

Jerel Myers, who is third in the AFL in all purpose yards, had a game high 148 total yards.
