KANSAS CITY - Following a run to the 2022 NWSL Championship match, the Kansas City Current continues to bolster the roster ahead of the 2023 season as the club today announced the signing of defender Hailie Mace to a new three-year contract. The veteran defender is now tied to the club through the 2025 season.

"After this last season in Kansas City, it was a no brainer to want to sign on for three more," said Mace. "This organization is setting the standard for what professional athletes deserve in order to be their best and that is something I want to be a part of! I have grown immensely as a player and person since being here and I only want to continue to do that, as well as bring home a championship."

Mace was drafted with the second overall pick in the 2019 draft but chose to start her professional career in Australia and Sweden. She returned to the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) prior to the 2020 Challenge Cup when her rights were traded from Sky Blue (now NJ/NY Gotham) to the North Carolina Courage. She played in every game for North Carolina in both the 2020 and 2021 Challenge Cups and 10 games in 2021 before coming to Kansas City, along with forward Kristen Hamilton, in a blockbuster trade.

Since the trade, Mace has proven herself to be one of the NWSL's young stars. She has played 31 games for Kansas City and currently ranks fourth in goals (five), third in total shots (56) and third in shots on goal (22) for the club, all from her defensive position.

Mace made her international debut for the U.S. Women's National Team on April 18, 2020 in a friendly against Mexico. She earned her first start in the 2018 Concacaf Women's Championship, helping the USWNT to a 6-2 win over Mexico. With her strong play for Kansas City in the NWSL this season, Mace was called up to the U.S. roster once again this season and earned five more caps for her country.

"Hailie is an outstanding member of this team and we are thrilled that she chose to continue her career with the Kansas City Current," said general manager Camille Levin Ashton. "Her success over the last year is a testament to the determination and effort that makes her a great player. We look forward to three more years with Hailie."

With the return of Mace, along with newly signed free agents Morgan Gautrat and Vanessa DiBernardo, the Kansas City Current are gearing up for another run to the NWSL Championship in 2023. For information on Season Ticket Memberships visit KansasCityCurrent.com/tickets.
