Kansas City Current News Release
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Current midfielder Debinha was named the Week Five NWSL Bud Light Player of the Week, as voted on by fans. Debinha earns the honor after scoring the first brace in club history and leading the Current to a 2-0 victory over NJ/NY Gotham FC Sunday.
After a slow start to the season due to an injury suffered in February's SheBelieves Cup with Brazil, Debinha has come on strong over the past few weeks. In Sunday's match she led all players with six shots (four on target). She had a beautifully timed run midway through the second half, collecting a through pass from midfielder Lo'eau LaBonta and barreling straight towards Gotham's goalkeeper and the first score of the day. Four minutes later, her pressure on the goal allowed her to convert a cross from forward Michelle Cooper and failed clearance from the defense for her second score of the day.
Debinha will look to extend her three-game goal scoring streak and add to her league-leading four goals when the Current travels to Southern California to face Angel City FC Sunday at 7 p.m. CT. Lisa Roman, Aly Trost Martin and Jordan Angeli will call all the action on KMCI 38 the Spot and KC Current Radio, with coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. CT.
