Kannapolis Tops Crawdads, 7-3

HICKORY, N.C. - The Hickory Crawdads fell, 7-3, to the Kannapolis Intimidators before 722 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Sunday evening, as the teams split the four-game series to open the second half of the season.

The Crawdads (2-2) got on the board first with a run against RHP Greg Infante (3-5) in the bottom of the second inning. With the bases loaded after two hit batters and a 3B Matt West single, CF Jared Bolden drove in a run on a ground ball to second, plating RF Mike Bianucci and putting Hickory ahead, 1-0.

Kannapolis (2-2) came back with three runs in the top of the third against RHP Jake Brigham (2-5). Two tallies came in on a two-run double by 2B Lee Fischer and put the Intimidators in the 2-1 lead. Fischer then came in later in the inning on a ground ball by RF Justin Greene, making it 3-1.

Hickory cut the deficit to one run with an RBI single by C Leonel De Los Santos in the bottom of the fourth inning, plating 3B Matt West from third after he doubled to lead off the frame.

The Intimidators opened up a five-run lead with four runs in the top of the fifth. An RBI single by 1B Jorge Castillo was followed by a three-run home run by 3B Jose Vargas and Kannapolis moved into a 7-2 lead. RHP Cody Eppley took over on the mound after the long ball and combined with RHP Tyler Tufts to blank the Intimidators the rest of the way.

CF David Paisano led off the eighth inning with a double and quickly scored on an RBI double hit by 2B Mike Hollander. 1B Erik Morrison followed with a single to put runners on the corners with no one out, however, LHP Garrett Johnson retired the next three batters without allowing another run. Johnson also dealt a scoreless ninth, closing out the 7-3 win for Kannapolis. Brigham was tagged with the loss for the Crawdads, while Infante registered the win for the Intimidators.
