Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Kannapolis saw their 2009 season come to a disappointing end on Friday night at FirstEnergy Park as Lakewood routed the Intimidators, 9-0.
The win sealed the best-of-three series after the BlueClaws 4-2 victory over Kannapolis on Wednesday at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
The Intimidators never found their offense on a rainy evening, mustering just three hits in the loss. Kannapolis opened the game with back-to-back hits from Kenny Williams and Eduardo Escobar, but did not have another until Sergio Morales opened the eighth with a base hit.
The nine-run deficit marked the most one-sided loss of the season for the Intimidators. It was also the first time Kannapolis lost consecutive games to the BlueClaws in four series this season.
Lakewood pounded out 14 hits, including 10 in the first four innings. Joe Serafin (0-1) took the most abuse, giving up six earned runs on nine hits in 3 1/3 innings. The lefty was a last minute addition for Stephen Sauer, who was scheduled to start the game, but was scratched two days ago due to injury.
Sebastian Valle put the game away in the sixth inning against Leroy Hunt, knocking a three-run home run to make it a nine-run game. Valle finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Harold Garcia, Travis d'Arnaud and Troy Hanzawa also had multi-hit ballgames.
Kannapolis finished the postseason 0-2 and tallied a 82-59 mark overall.
