Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Port Huron, MI- Alex Okicki made 32 saves as the Kalamazoo Jr.
K-Wings beat the Port Huron Fighting Falcons 3-2 on Saturday night. Kalamazoo is the hottest team in the North American Hockey League, as their latest victory is their eighth in nine games and they continue to climb up the ranks of the North Division.
It didn't take long for the Jr. K-Wings to strike, as just 3:39 for them to take an early one-goal lead on the road. Trevor Boyd scored his third of the season when he jammed home a sharp-angle shot past the Fighting Falcons goaltender Peter Megariotis.
Under two minutes later, Kalamazoo would add another tally. This time it was Robbie Payne who notched his seventh of the season. Payne continues to find the back of the net with relative ease on the season, as he has scored in seven of his last eight games.
Thirty-six seconds later, Taylor Burden scored for the first time on the seasonBurden, one of the few veterans on the Jr.
K-Wings, snuck the puck past Megariotis and gave the Jr. K-Wings a 3-0 lead after only 5:43 had ticked off the clock.
Port Huron couldn't be silenced forever, as they only needed 1:17 after the Giffel goal to get themselves on the scoreboard for the first time of the evening. Mike Moroso beat Kalamazoo starter, Okicki, for his fifth of the season to make the score 3-1.
The only threatening scoring chance for either team during the second period was a penalty shot opportunity for the Fighting Falcons. Okicki was not fooled by the deke attempt from the attacker, and calmly made a butterfly save to preserve the two-goal lead for the Jr. K-Wings.
While working on their fourth power play of the evening, Port Huron finally took advantage of having an extra attacker. Ian Miller scored his second goal of the season, as Kody Polin added an assist, tying him with Alex Globke for the team lead in points (11).
