
IceRays Hold on for 8-7 Victory

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - The Corpus Christi IceRays scored seven goals in the second period in route to an 8-7 victory over the New Mexico Mustangs.
The IceRays fell down 2-0 after the first period of play as Nolan Valleau and Dallas Crum both scored for the Mustangs to quiet the crowd of 3,497 in the American Bank Center.
Whatever was said in the locker room during the first intermission worked as Corpus Christi's Chris Taff kicked off the scoring 3:15 into the second period with a shot through a screen and into the net to pull the IceRays within a goal.
The Mustangs regained their two goal lead 33 seconds later as Dallas Crum recorded his second goal of the night giving New Mexico a 3-1 advantage.
The IceRays then began a streak scoring six unanswered goals in the second period started by Matthew Weis 5:16 into the period pulling Corpus Christi within a goal.
Phil Pietroniro scored 17 seconds later on a shot from the hash marks tying the game at three and electrifying the crowd.
Corpus Christi took the lead for good courtesy of Seth Blair who continues to stay hot. He deflected a shot in front of the net for his first goal of the night to give the IceRays a 4-3 lead.
Josh Obregon, Dmitry Ermakov, and Joe Ginley all scored for the IceRays before the second period ended to give Corpus Christi a 7-3 lead after 40 minutes of play.
New Mexico stormed back in the third period after a Seth Blair goal, the Mustangs scored three unanswered goals to make the lead 8-7 for Corpus Christi, however it was not enough as the IceRays won their second game in a row.
The IceRays are home tomorrow afternoon as they host the New Mexico Mustangs. Puck drops at 3:05PM, coverage begins at 2:50PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on ESPN Radio 1440AM.
