Kalamazoo Kings News Release
Kalamazoo-The Kalamazoo Kings held their annual open tryout today Saturday May 1st. Thirty three players showed up to try out for the team and one player stood above the rest and earned a professional contract to join the team for spring training next week.
Infielder Joseph Poulter is a middle infielder from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, AR. Joe spent two seasons there, hitting .289 as a senior with 30 RBI in 45 games. He was also a teammate with current King Destan Makonnen in 2008.
New Field Manager Jamie Keefe was impressed by Poulter's all-around skills during the three hour tryout, "Joe was strong defensively with good pop in his bat and ran the bases well."
Poulter will provide another option as the Kings are looking to replace all four starters in the infield from last year's division winning team.
Please join us Wednesday May 25th for opening day, as the Kings host the Washington Wild Things. Magnet schedules will be given out to the first 1,000 fans courtesy of Rapid Refill. Game time is for 7:05 p.m. with gates to open at 6:00 p.m. Ticket prices are as follows: box seats - $8.00; general admission - $6.00.
