Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Game Rewind Saturday, October 18th @ Bloomington (Bloomington 5-Kalamazoo 4)
Bloomington, IL- Solid through 40 minutes, the Kalamazoo Wings surrendered four goals in the final 20 minutes of play and fell 5-4 during their season opener to the Bloomington PrairieThunder.
In the preseason, it took Kalamazoo 13 opportunities before they could strike on the power-play; in the regular season it only took 32 seconds of their first chance to light the lamp. Camping out in front, Jeremy Stevenson (1st) outmuscled three Bloomington players and knocked the puck past Scott Fankhouser to give the K-Wings a 1-0 lead.
Scoring on a wrist shot, Jon Booras (1st) knotted the game at 1-1 for the Thunder with a power-play marker 5:50 into the second period.
Storming back, the K-Wings pelted the Thunder with three goals in a span of three minutes. Lucas Drake's (1st) slap shot at 9:24 regained a 2-1 lead for the Kalamazoo. Just over two minutes later, Tommy Lange registered his first goal as a pro and then 59 seconds after Lange's lamp lighter, Blair Stayzer (1st) lifted a backhander over Fankhouser to extend Kalamazoo's lead to 4-1.
Down by three goals entering the final stanza, the PrairieThunder were up to the challenge scoring four times in the period to escape the U.S. Cellular Coliseum with a 5-4 victory.
Former K-Wing, Travis Granbois (1st, 2nd) lit the lamp twice in the third period, including the game-winning goal with a shorthanded tally at the 12:15 mark of the third.
Fast Forward
Kalamazoo concludes their two-game road swing this Friday, October 24th with a trip to Muskegon to battle the Lumberjacks. This will be the first regular season contest between the K-Wings and a Muskegon hockey teamed named the Lumberjacks since the 1991-92 season. Kalamazoo defeated Muskegon 2-0 in their lone preseason meeting back on October 8th at Wings Stadium. The Lumberjacks have played one game during the 2008-09 season, a 4-3 victory over the Port Huron Icehawks.
On Saturday (10/25), the K-Wings will welcome last year's Turner Cup champions, the Fort Wayne Komets to Wings Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. face-off. Fort Wayne has started the season 2-0-0-0 and has outscored their opponents a combined 18-5 in those contests. Besides being the home opener for the K-Wings, Saturday's contest will also coincide with the 5th Annual Orange Ice Game presented by Outdoor Services, Meijer, WWMT and 92.5 WZUU. Festivities will begin at noon with a pre-game carnival in the Wings Stadium parking lot. The carnival is FREE to fans that have a ticket to the Orange Ice game. Fans are encouraged to wear costumes to the game for trick-or-treating and a contest.

Offensive Eruption
Last Saturday, Kalamazoo exploded for three second-period goals against Bloomington. Even more impressive, the three goals occurred in a span of three minutes.
