Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Today Dash RHP Justin Collop (right shoulder) has been placed on the seven-day disabled list. To fill Collop's roster spot, LHP Brad Furnish has been signed as a minor league free agent out of independent ball and assigned to Winston-Salem.

This is Collop's second stint on the disabled list this season. He was on the D.L. from April 25 - May 12 with a similar injury, an aggravation of an arm ailment that he originally developed in spring training. Collop is coming off a no-decision in his most recent performance on Wednesday night at Potomac. He allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings. Prior to that outing, Collop had given up just one run in his previous 19 innings. Overall with the Dash this season, he is 2-3 with a 4.17 ERA in 15 games (six starts).

Furnish has pitched most recently for the Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League. In 15 games (three starts) this season for the Bluefish, he was 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 36.2 innings. He threw seven scoreless innings and struck out 11 to win his final start for Bridgeport on Thursday night. He was originally a second round draft pick by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2006, pitching in parts of four seasons for the organization before receiving his release prior to the 2010 season. In his four years with the Cardinals organization, Furnish went 21-24 with a 4.56 ERA in 109 games (68 starts). Last season, he pitched with the Gary South Shore RailCats of the independent American Association, and went 4-0 with a 3.28 ERA and two saves in 39 games (one start).

A native of Keller, Texas, Furnish pitched at Texas Christian University and at the University of Nebraska before becoming a professional. In one year with the Cornhuskers, he went 3-0 with a 3.72 ERA in 16 games (four starts) before transferring to TCU. In his two season with the Horned Frogs, Furnish was 13-12 with a 4.23 ERA in 40 games (30 starts). He struck out 204 batters in 191.1 innings over his two seasons in Fort Worth. Furnish also pitched for the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Summer League in 2004 and 2005, striking out 49 batters in 49.1 innings in his two summers on the Cape. In high school, Furnish was an All-State player in Texas and played in the Texas 5A All-Star Game. He was honored as the Dallas Morning News "Pitcher of the Year" in 2003.

The Dash roster remains at the Carolina League limit of 25 players.

Tonight the Dash begin a seven-game home stand that starts with an Independence Day weekend filled with fireworks and fun. Fireworks will follow the games tonight, Sunday, and Monday. Fans can purchase tickets at BB&T Ballpark's box office or by visiting www.wsdash.com.
