'Just Being a Sponge Here': Riche Taking in Everything During Time with Warriors

Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Ben Riche has been putting together an incredible season with the Regina Pat Canadians.

Despite the big offensive numbers that he's been putting up in the Saskatchewan Male Under-18 AAA Hockey League, the Moose Jaw Warriors prospect is still trying to get better.

"I'm just being a sponge here, soaking everything up and learn as much as I can," Riche said.

The Warriors' 2020 second round pick has been on a tear this season with Regina, posting 21 goals, which leads the league, and 42 points, which is second, in 31 games.

Riche said he's very happy with how he's played this season.

"It's been great," he said. "I've taken what I learned here and putting it back into my game, learning new things and getting better."

Riche has multiple points in 14 games this season, including his last three before joining the Warriors this week to practice with the team.

He said he used his experience with the Warriors during training camp and the preseason to hit the ground running with the Pat Canadians.

"I focused on my goal scoring ability and learned from everything that the coaches told me and just applied it to my game," Riche said.

"Playing at the WHL pace helped a lot, having to slow down a little bit, it was a big game changer and let me have more confidence too."

Riche has been practicing with the Warriors this week at Mosaic Place as the team prepares for three games in three nights this weekend.

He said it's been great to get back into the Warriors' locker room.

"It's awesome, they're all really good guys and they treat me so well, so it's fun for sure," Riche said.

"It's been a good opportunity for me and it's good getting back into the swing of things with the guys."

The Warriors are back on home ice coming up on Friday night when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers at Mosaic Place. Moose Jaw also welcomes in Winnipeg on Saturday and then travels to Regina on Sunday afternoon.
