Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release

(Jupiter, FL) - The Vero Beach Dodgers were knocked off by the Jupiter Hammerheads 7-4 Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium, keeping their magic number for clinching the East Division at three.

LHP Mike Megrew started the game for the Dodgers in search of his third straight win, but tossed just two innings, leaving the game with an injury in the third and his club down 2-1. The Hammerheads had taken the lead in the first when DH Jeremy Hermida took Megrew deep for a two-run homer.

LF Bryan Goelz reduced the lead to 2-1 with a two-out RBI single off of starter RHP Henricus Vanden Hurk in the second inning. The Dodgers would get another run in the fifth on DH Trey Dyson's RBI groundout with the bases full in the fifth inning.

Unfortunately, Jupiter scored single runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings and added another pair in the eighth against Dodger relievers. Vanden Hurk lasted five innings, permitting two runs, to pick up his second win, while Megrew was saddled with the loss to drop to 7-6.

The Dodgers resume their quest for the East Division Title as well as the Treasure Coast Cup Monday night in Port St. Lucie. The Dodgers are down 7-6 in the Treasure Coast Cup race with the St. Lucie Mets, with three meetings still to go. RHP Casey Hoorelbeke (6-4, 4.13) will take to the mound at Tradition Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM.
