Montreal Juniors News Release
Montreal - After losing the open game of this four-game homestand, the Juniors looked to rebound tonight against division rivals, the Gatineau Olympiques. The Juniors did just that as they score three quick goals in the first and defeated the Olympiques by the score of 4 to 2. Forwards Jeremy Gouchie and Trevor Parkes led the way with two assists each. Goaltender Jake Allen also shined in the performance as he stopped 31 shots.
Montreal dominated the first period. Juniors forward Matthew Brenton opened up the scoring when he wristed the puck past Olmypiques goaltender Dereck Tait's glove for his third of the season at 2:45. Montreal doubled the lead when defenseman Vincent Bourgeois slapped one through traffic for his first of the year at 5:56. Juniors captain Nicolas Chouinard added another on a brilliant shorthanded breakaway at 7:08. That goal ended Tait's night as he was replaced by Maxime Clermont. The score going to the second period was Montreal 3, Gatineau 0.
In the second, the Juniors stretched their lead to four goals when winger Pier-Antoine Dion scored his sixth of the year on another breakaway at 8:32. But the Olympiques began to answer. Just 25 seconds later, Gatineau forward Alexandre Touchette one-timed Alexandre Leduc's pass for his fourth of season. Leduc cut the deficit to two goals when he scored short side past Montreal goaltender Jake Allen at 15:23. At the end of the second, the score was Montreal 4, Gatineau 2.
In the third, the Juniors stood their ground as they played shutdown defense and goaltender Jake Allen was flawless. Montreal cruised the rest of the way as they defeated Gatineau 4 to 2.
Juniors goalie Jake Allen was sharp as he stopped 31 shots to seal the win. The lackluster Dereck Tait allowed 3 goals on 5 shots for the Olympiques and took the loss. His replacement, Maxime Clermont made 17 saves. The Juniors improve to 10-9-0-1 and the Olmypiques fall to 13-7-0-0.
Juniors next opponent will be Patrick Roy's Quebec Remparts on Sunday, at 4:05PM. Montreal will conclude this four-game homestand when they host the defending champs, the Drummondville Voltigeurs, on Tuesday at 7:35PM.
