Montreal Juniors News Release
Montreal, February 20th, 2009 - It was a much-needed win on Friday night for the Junior as they faced off against the PEI Rocket. The Junior rebounded tonight, after one of their worst loses of the season, as they took two points in PEI with a 2-1 win.
The Junior found themselves down a goal early in the first frame as PEI's Stuart Lenehan was able to beat Jake Allen on a short-handed opportunity at 2:37 for his 3rd of the season. Despite firing 14 shots at PEI net-minder Bobby Nadeau in the first the Junior would find themselves down a goal entering the second.
Looking to get off to a better start in the second, the Junior would get their tying goal at 3:19 as Chris Thorne found the back of the net for his 3rd of the season. After a flurry of shots and penalties assessed to both teams, Junior Matthew Brenton would give his team the lead on an unassisted shorthanded goal with just 43 seconds left in the period. The goal would prove to be the winner, as the third period remained scoreless.
Continuing their road swing tomorrow night, the Junior will play in St. John at 7:00pm, followed by an afternoon matchup on Sunday against the Titan d'Acadie-Bathurst. The team will return home to the Verdun Auditorium on Friday February 27th for a matchup against the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
