Juniors top Foreurs in Shootout 2 to 1

Montreal, January 2nd, 2010 - With a victory over the Shawinigan Cataractes on Wednesday to conclude the 2009 year, the Juniors open 2010 with a match against division rival, the Val-d'Or Foreurs. The Juniors defeated the Val-d'Or Foreurs in a very close battle as the game was decided in a shootout, 2 to 1. Alexandre Quesnel tallied for the Foreurs. Hubert Genest scored for the Juniors while David Rose scored the shootout winner.

It was a very defensive-minded first period as both teams did not register a goal. TheJuniors held the Foreurs to only one shot on goal in the first. The deadlock was finally broken when forward Alexandre Quesnel put one on the board for the Foreurs at 10:08 of the second as he fired one shortside past Jean-Francois Berube for his eighteenth of the year from Olivier Dallaire and Jonathan Hazen.

The Juniors found the equalizer on the power play when Hubert Genest ripped one past Raffaele D'Orso at 6:41 of the third from Nicolas Chouinard and Jeremy Gouchie. Without any scoring in the overtime, the game was decided in a shootout. The Juniors were victorious as Trevor Parkes and David Rose contributed the shootout goals.

Montreal goaltender Jean-Francois Berube was excellent as he stopped 17/18 shots in the win. Foreurs netminder Raffaele D'Orso made 32/33 saves in the loss. The Juniors record is 18-17-0-3 while the Foreurs' record stands at 15-20-3-1.

The Juniors will conclude this homestand with a crucial game against another divisional rival, the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, tomorrow in the Auditorium at 4:05PM. Then they will start the five-game road swing starting with a matchup against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on the 6th. The Juniors will return home on Sunday, January 17th, when they take on the Victoriaville Tigers at 4:05PM.
