Montreal Juniors News Release

Montreal, February 15th, 2009 - After a disappointing shutout loss to the Quebec Remparts on Friday night, the Juniors looked to restore winning ways as they faced off against one of the Q's powerhouse's on Sunday afternoon, the Gatineau Olympique. The Junior would take the two points tonight, winning by a score of 4-3.

The Junior conceded the lead very early in the third as Jean-Philip Chabot got the puck past goalie Jake Allen just 59 seconds into the period. Junior captain Matt Fillier would not allow the Gatineau lead to persist as he tipped in a pass from Nick Layton past goaltender Maxime Clermont evening the score at one a piece at 10:12. Following the captains lead, the Junior would score again, moments later as Nick Layton fired one past Clermont, at 12:18, followed by the captains second of the night to end the period at 3-1.

Early in the second period, off a scrimmage in front of the net, the puck would fall behind Junior's Allen, where it would slowly crawl across the goal line to reduce the Juniors lead to 3-2. The goal was credited to Gatineau right-wing Joshua Domingues for his 10th of the season. Gatineau would then even the score while Phillipe Fontaine was off on a tripping penalty, as Gatineau's Maxime Mallette fired one past goalie Jake Allen.

It wouldn't take more than two minutes into the third for the Junior to regain the lead as Jeremy Gouchie tallied the Junior's fourth goal of the night and his 13th on the season. Despite several opportunities for Gatineau, they were unable to break Jake Allen for a tying goal, as the Junior held on for a 4-3 win.

The Juniors will head out on the road this week with games in Cape Breton on Wednesday, PEI on Friday and St Johns and Bathurst on Saturday and Sunday respectively. The Junior will return to their home arena on Friday February 27th when they faceoff against one of the Q's hottest teams, the Dummondville Voltigeurs.
