Montreal Juniors News Release
Montreal - The Montreal Juniors lost a tough match tonight against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in overtime 3 to 2. It was second night in a row that the Juniors lost in overtime against the Huskies. Center Jeff Desjardin scored the game winner for Rouyn-Noranda.
The Huskies dominated the first period as they outshot the Juniors 19 to 3. But it was the Juniors that got things started when winger Guillaume Asselin scored his fifteenth of the season from Jeremy Gouchie and Matthew Brenton on the power play at 16:07. Yet, the Huskies tied the game right back as Russian winger Sergey Ostapchuk, who scored the game winner against the Juniors in overtime last night, put home his thirteenth of the season at 16:22.
Just ten seconds into the second period, Jerome Gauthier-Leduc would give the Huskies the lead on the power play. The Juniors would even up the game when Asselin scored his second of the night at 16:21 of the second.
With no scoring in the third period, the game was forced to overtime. It was center Jeff Desjardin who scored the overtime winner on the power play at 1:18 for the Huskies.
Juniors netminder Jean-Francois Berube was stellar as he stopped 39/42 shots in the loss. Huskies Nicolas Champion made 21/23 saves in the win. The Juniors record is now at 24-20-2-3 and the Huskies are 30-18-2-2.
The Montreal Juniors will now head to Chicoutimi to face the Sagueneens on Sunday. The Juniors will start February with a match in Quebec City against the Remparts on Wednesday as the Juniors continue this road trip. The next home game will be on February 12th when the Juniors face the Val-d'Or Foreurs at 7:35PM.
