Junior Blues Split With Topeka; Race to Playoffs Is On!
March 15, 2009 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
The Springfield Jr. Blues beat the league-leading Topeka Roadrunners on Friday night 4-1. Saturday night was a different story as the Roadrunners handed the Blues a decisive 6-1 loss. With the win, Topeka maintained first place and a slim one point lead over South Division rival, St. Louis.
The Blues remain in fourth place six points behind Wichita Falls, Texas. With only four games remaining, the race to the playoffs and the unltimate matchups are still very much up in the air. If the season were over now, the Blues would play Topeka and the St. Louis Bandits would square off against the Wildcats from Wichita Falls. The Blues have beat Topeka three out of the last four games the teams have met. Springfield has only one win against St. Louis all year, so most area fans would prefer to see a Topka-Springfield matchup. The 1st round of the playoff series is a best-of-five event with the winner of each division heading to Mason City, Iowa for the Robertson Cup Finals.
The Blues host Owatonna next Friday and Saturday night at the Nelson Center. Game time is 7:30 PM each night. On Friday, the team will honor former board member and long-time hockey supporter, Jack Healy, who passed away last year. Saturday will be "Jon Gaffney Night" at the Nellie as the team honors Jon's three-year playing carreer with the Blues. More info on these special nights will be made available mid-week. Lastly, the organization is conducting a silent jersey auction which will end at the conclusion of next Saturday's game. Fans can bid on both the home(white) and away(Blue) jersey's of their favorite Blues player, with bids starting at $75. Support the team and get a life-long keepsake of your favorite Springfield Jr. Blues hockey player!
