Junior Blue Jackets lose home opener 6-2 to Omaha

Columbus, OH. - The Ohio Junior Blue Jackets fell to the Omaha Lancers 6-2 Friday night in their home opener at the Dispatch Ice Haus.

The Lancers (4-0-0, 8 pts.) jumped out to a 3-0 lead midway through the second period. Ohio (2-1-1, 5 pts.) forward Derek Roehl answered with a tally for the Junior Jackets' first goal, on the power play, at 16:46 of the second to cut the lead to 3-1 after 40 minutes.

Ohio forward Matt Leitner scored the team's second power-play goal of the game less than two minutes into the third period to pull the Junior Blue Jackets within one. Omaha forward Travis Novak scored 34 seconds later to make the score 4-2. The Lancers scored twice more, the final goal coming with less than a minute remaining, on goals by forwards Dakota Eveland and Aaron Lewadniuk to complete the scoring.

Junior Blue Jackets goaltender Corson Cramer stopped 31-of-37 shots, while his counterpart, Drew Palmisano, made 31 saves on 33 shots. Ohio was 2-for 6 on the power play while Omaha went 1-for-6.

The two teams face each other again Saturday night at the Dispatch Ice Haus, to conclude the first of two weekend series between the clubs this season. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
