Portland Sea Dogs News Release
THREE-RUN NINTH FOR THE OTHER GUYS - In a close game that was tied, 1-1 until the ninth inning, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats plated three runs in the ninth to win, 4-2. With the bases loaded, Jordan Groshans deposited a fly ball down the third base line to clear the bases. Ryan Fitzgerald hit a two-out solo home run for the Sea Dogs in the bottom of the inning, but Portland couldn't complete the comeback.
BRAYAN BELLO DEBUT - In his Double-A debut, Brayan Bello was impressive. He tossed 4.0 innings allowing one run on five hits while walking two and striking out two. He was just recently promoted from Greenville where he was 5-0, 2.27 ERA.
MENESES STILL LEADS THE LEAGUE - Joey Meneses continues to lead the Double-A Northeast League in RBI with 32. He also third in total bases (69) and sixth with hits (36).
FAMILIAR FOE - After the series finale this afternoon, the Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats will face off for three more series this season. The Sea Dogs will next travel to Manchester at the end of the month before the Fisher Cats return to Portland at the end of July. Delta Dental Stadium will be the penultimate roadtrip of the season for the Sea Dogs.
THE CROWDS ARE BACK - Last night provided the largest crowd of the season so far at Hadlock Field. 5,423 fans packed the stadium in the first homestand of 100% capacity since certain pandemic restrictions were lifted.
NOW 1.5 OUT OF FIRST PLACE - With the loss last night, the Sea Dogs are now 1.5 games out of first place behind the Somerset Patriots. Portland and Somerset will meet for the first time on June 22nd at Hadlock Field.
NO RUNS FOR BLAIR IN JUNE - Sea Dogs reliever Seth Blair has not allowed a run in the month of June. He has appeared in four games and has tossed 5.1 innings allowing one hit while walking one and striking out five. He has held opposing batters to just .059.
ON THE MOUND - AJ Politi makes his eighth start of the season this afternoon. He has faced the Fisher Cats four times in 2021 and has 0-2 record with 11.20 ERA. Politi has pitched 13.2 innings allowing 20 runs (17 earned) on 23 hits while walking 10 and striking out 18. The Fisher Cats are batting .354 against Politi.
