Juice make Anderson home away from home

June 10, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
Anderson Joes News Release

Due to a scheduling conflict with Manatee Community College, the Bradenton Juice had their three-game home series against the Anderson Joes moved to Anderson Memorial Stadium on Sunday. Designated as the official home team for the series, the Juice held their de facto homefield advantage with a 3-1 win over the Joes.

Bradenton (12-7) starting pitcher Rocky Collis was the story of the night, throwing seven shutout innings while allowing just six hits, no walks and striking out 10 Joes batters. Al Corbeil, Nick Corbeil and Brenan Herrera each scored for the Juice, who have now won five games in a row and 12 of their last 16.

The Joes (5-16) could only manage the one run and waited until the ninth inning to score it. Richard Quihuis-Bell hit a pinch-hit, one-out double to reach base, allowing Kevin Noles to drive him in with an RBI single. Bradenton closer Steve Alverson allowed nothing else in earning his league-leading fourth save of the year.

Kevin Culpepper started for the Joes and allowed two runs in four innings, taking his first loss of the year to drop to 0-1. Culpepper could only last the four innings after suffering from flu-like symptoms and food poisoning earlier in the week. Collis improved to 1-2 with the victory for Bradenton.

On a bright note for Anderson, Heath Keel extended his on-base streak to 21 straight games and his hitting streak to eight games in a row with a single in the game. Keel has reached base every game this season and is also the only player in the South Coast League with two hitting streaks of eight or more games this year.

The two teams meet again in game two of the series Monday night, when Anderson will once again play as the "road" team. Game time returns to its normal 7:05 p.m. start.
