Charleston Swamp Foxes News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC â For only the second-time this season, one player has garnered both Player of the Week honors for the Charleston Swamp Foxes. Wide receiver/defensive back Joe Judge joins former Fox Demont Smith as being the only player to sweep weekly honors, earning the award from both the Fox Hole Fan Club and front office.
Judge, seeing his first action since suffering a head and neck injury in the road win at Richmond, did it all in Charleston's 58-34 domination of the Atlantic division-leading Cape Fear Wildcats Saturday night. Judge led the team with nine receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown on offense.
Judge, who was the state of Louisiana's Defensive Player of the Year while at McNeese State, added three tackles and a career-high two interceptions as the Foxes top-rated defense held the Wildcats' fifth-ranked offense to only six second half points. Both ensuing drives following Judge's interceptions resulted in Swamp Foxes' touchdowns.
In addition to his two-way heroics, Judge returned one kickoff 18 yards and two missed field goals 56 yards.
On the season, Judge ranks third on the team in receiving, averaging just under 53 yards per game as a two-way player. He has caught 40 passes for 476 yards and seven touchdowns. Defensively, Judge ranks fifth in tackles with 24, including 18 solo stops. He has three interceptions in addition to forcing and recovering a pair of fumbles a piece.
The Swamp Foxes will need more heroics from Judge and his teammates as they strive for the team's first-ever postseason berth. Charleston hosts the Greensboro Prowlers this Saturday night, July 5, at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Swamp Foxes have enjoyed great success versus the Prowlers team, winning five of the previous seven meetings, but have never bested Greensboro's new coach, Steven Jerry, in three tries.
In honor of Sly Foxes' fourth birthday, the Swamp Foxes announce that children 12 years of age and under will be admitted FREE when accompanied by a paying adult this Saturday. Festivities kickoff at 5:00 pm with the tailgate zone, which features live music from the "Brent Lundy Band," face painting, balloons, and for the first time this year, jump castles return.
Tickets are on sale now at the box office at the North Charleston Coliseum, on-line at www.ticketmaster.com, or by phone at (843) 554-6060. Group discounts are available by calling the Swamp Foxes' offices at (843) 554-4321.
