Wenatchee Wild News Release

WENATCHEE, Wash. - Jeff Jubinville (Edmonton, AB) scored a pair of second-period power play goals, Brendan Jensen (El Granada, Calif.) made 39 saves - many of them incredible - and the Wenatchee Wild earned its first win in the Robertson Cup Championship Tournament Friday night, defeating the Bismarck Bobcats, 2-1.

After a scoreless first period, the second period belonged to Jubinville, who put the Wild up 2-0 on a pair of power-play goals. Jubinville's first goal, scored at the 6:39 mark, was set up on a sharp circle-to-circle pass from Ryan Timar (Novi, Mich.). Jubinville settled Timar's feed and scored on a top-shelf shot.

Jubinville's second goal in the second period came with less than four minutes remaining before the second intermission. Adam McKenzie (Petaluma, Calif.) started the play as he skated down the near wall after collecting the puck on a rebound and threw a shot at the net. Jubinville, in prime position in front of Bismarck goaltender Jake Williams, redirected McKenzie's shot into the net.

The Wild kept up its pace in the third period but saw its lead cut in half with a little over eight minutes remaining in regulation when Bismarck defenseman Sam Rendle wristed a power-play goal from the top of the far circle. The Wild held off the Bobcats down the stretch, however, earning its first win in the tournament.

Wenatchee went 2-for-6 on the man-advantage while the Bobcats were 1-for-3. Williams stopped 38-of-40 shots for the Bobcats.

The Wild's last round robin game of the Robertson Cup Championship Tournament will take place at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday against the St. Louis Bandits. The three-time defending Robertson Cup champion Bandits defeated the Wild in last year's championship tilt, 3-2. The two teams played a three-game series at the Town Toyota Center in December with the Wild walking away with a 1-1-1 record.

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs will face Bismarck at 2:35 p.m. in Saturday's other round robin game.
