Jr. Knighthawks Heading to Jr. NLL Tournament Friday

August 22, 2018 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Jr. Knighthawks teams hit the floor this weekend in preparation for the Sixth Annual Jr. NLL Tournament. For the second straight year, three Jr. Knighthawks teams used the Upstate Box Lacrosse Invitational as a primer for the biggest event of the summer.

"It was a great weekend at our tournament," said Knighthawks Academy Director Brad Gillies. "It was our first time playing together as a team, and we learned a lot. This will only help prepare us for the stiff competition at the Jr. NLL tournament."

At the USBOXLA-sanctioned event, 15 teams competed for gold at Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex. The Jr. Knighthawks took second place in the Midget division, while the Bantams finished 2-2 and the Pee Wee team went 1-3. The Jr. Bandits (Midget), Western Woodsman (Bantam) and Team 51 Elite Lacrosse (Pee Wee) were crowned champions.

This weekend, the Jr. Knighthawks will travel to play in the Jr. NLL Tournament, which is a weekend-long competition featuring youth clubs representing NLL teams in both the U.S. and Canada. Teams in three divisions will compete at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre and Glen Abbey Community Centre in Oakville, Ontario from Friday, Aug. 24 to Sunday, Aug. 26.

Junior clubs for the Buffalo Bandits, Calgary Roughnecks, Colorado Mammoth, Georgia Swarm, New England Black Wolves, Rochester Knighthawks, Saskatchewan Rush, Toronto Rock and Vancouver Stealth, along with Junior Edmonton, will compete with players participating across Pee Wee, Bantam, and Midget age levels.

Players, coaches, and staff from the NLL will take part in the weekend, which will kick off with an opening ceremony and skills competition on Friday, Aug. 24.
