Jr. Blues Top Brown Bears

Matt Leon stood on his head and made 41 saves to lead the Springfield Jr. Blues to a 2-1 victory over the Kenai River Brown Bears.

Springfield was led by Ryan Atkinson, who racked up one goal and one assist. Atkinson scored 11:14 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Springfield. Parker Johnson assisted on the tally.

The Jr. Blues excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. With 30 shots on target during the contest, Springfield exceeded the 27.2 shots it averages per game this year.

Springfield also got a goal from Jeff McFarland as well.

Kenai River's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Springfield power plays. The Brown Bears were held below their usual level of production. Kenai River puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. The Jr. Blues were unable to stop the Brown Bears from sending pucks towards the net, and Kenai River eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

The Brown Bears were led by Ryan Walker, who scored the team's only goal. Walker scored 12:40 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Chris Nuth picked up the assist.

Springfield incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Gustaf Johansson made 28 saves for Kenai River on 30 shots. The Brown Bears incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
