Springfield Jr. Blues News Release

Was last night a fluke? Are these Springfield Jr. Blues for real? These and perhaps other questions about this years team of good guys might be answered tonight as the Jr. Blues host the St. Louis Bandits for the second game in as many nights. The guys came out last night and put a "whuppin'" on the number two team in the Southern Division, and Robertson Cup Champion with the final score of 7 - 2. The Jr. Blues owned the ice during the first two periods in what Coach Maher called "the best two periods of hockey" he's ever seen in the NAHL. Tonight is show time, and we shall see if a healthy, talented Springfield team can beat the nasty nemeses from St. Louis two straight games, or if last night was just an exceptional game for the home team.

Tonight is Scout Night at the Nellie and the Boy and Girl Scouts will be abundantly in attendance. Win, lose or draw, it will be a great evening of hockey at the old barn on North Fifth Street. The fans truly love this team as evidenced in last night's largest crowd of the season. 2010 (yes, just like the year) watched one of the best efforts put forth by the Jr. Blues in many seasons.

The crowd came out tonight! The stands are full and fans are lined up clear around the glass, and on the "standing room only" steps at the south end of the rink. We haven't seen that kind of support for quite a while, and it is certainly a welcome sight.

The first period was a hard fought, physical game that started of the right way. The Jr. Blues scored about 42 seconds into the game, but by the end of the first period St. Louis came back to score two. At the end of one period it is Bandits 2, Jr. Blues 1.

Period two saw the Bandits score again to make the score 3 - 1, but not to worry yet. Remember the good guys came away with 4 goals in the second period last night. We need to score quickly in the third and take the game to the Bandits.

Both teams fought hard and either team could have taken the game if the third period started evenly, but St. Louis had the advantage into the third and kept it. As tough as the Jr. Blues played last night it was reversed in the third and the score ended with an empty net goal by St. Louis and the Bandits salvage a split tonight with the final score 5 - 2. Congratulations to the Bandits and thanks to the Springfield Jr. Blues for their resurgence. It's good to see this bunch of guys healthy and able to put this talent on the ice.

Feb. 12 and 13 will be the next home games. And we'll bring the news to you then.
