Jr. Blues Rally Falls Shart; Lose opener to Fairbanks 4-3

The Springfield Jr. Blues, after spotting the Fairbanks Ice Dogs a 4-1 lead, made a valient effort to comeback, only to lose 4-3 in thier first game of the Blaine Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota.

The Ice Dogs controlled the play throughout the early part of the game. The Blues started the scoring with a powerplay goal by Nick Curry. Defenseman Jack Callahan added the other two goals late in the 3rd period. Springfield pulled goalie Matt Wichorek for the sixth skater but were unable to tie the game. "We are a very young team" stated coach Chris Wyler. " This is a big jump for many of our kids. As the game got going and they got a taste of the new level of talent they were facing, they got better. Fairbanks may be the top team in the league. I'm proud of the way our kids played and came back. We are a very good team and will continue to get better". The North Amercan Hockey League sponsors the Blaine Showcase each year. Springfield was the showcase champion last year. Over 250 college and professional scouts are in attendance looking at players for thier programs. The Jr. Blues have produced over 110 players that have gone on to play in college o! ver the course of thier sixteen years of existence. The Blues will play the Alpena Ice Diggers today to 3pm.
