Springfield Jr. Blues News Release

The rubber match of this series pits the teams that are playing each other for the sixth time in a row. So far Texas has come out on top in four of those games, but we watched the Jr. Blues play one of their best games of the season in last night's 3 - 2 win at the "Nellie".

Texas plays rough and tumble hockey ala Tony Curtale, and watching and listening to the Tornado club before warm-ups, they are a vocal bunch with an arrogance bar none! I comparison, the Jr. Blues are more laid back, and to me, act far more professional as a team, which is a direct reflection of the coaches Maher and Dibble. With the Springfield win last night, coupled with Wichita Falls loss at Fairbanks, Alaska in a game played outdoors, the good guys sewed up the fourth and final playoff spot in the Southern Division of the League. If the season concludes with the standings are today, and playoff pairings are made as they have been in previous years, the Jr. Blues will take on Division leader Topeka in the last series of the season and again the following week in the first round. So, Let's Go Blues!

The first two periods were hard fought and evenly played as shown by the score. After two periods it's 1 - 1. Period three coming up.

This was a game you hated to see either team lose. Both Springfield and Texas played hard with energy and intensity, and they played to a draw through the final stanza, and an overtime period. Texas finally took it to the Jr. Blues with a shoot out victory.

One highlight of the game was to see Tanner Milliron on the ice in goal for the first time in several weeks. The talented young goalie has been out recuperating from a broken bone in his hand. It was nice to see him pick up as though he'd never missed a game. Even though the team lost he is back. As for the team, they played with intensity and more energy than we saw Friday night, and they looked yesterday and today like they are ready for the playoffs.

So, to wrap things up as positive and noncontroversial as I possibly can: "Blues played good today. They lost. See you next week at the "Nellie".
