
Jr. Blues Earn 3 points in Fairbanks

The Jr. Blues were able to get the win Friday night in Fairbanks. The Jr. Blues had 6 different players score goals and 10 different players record points on the night.
Fairbanks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on the powerplay. Less than 30 seconds later, Terry Leabo scored a goal from the point to make it 1-1. Jeff McFarland would put the Jr. Blues ahead in the second on the powerplay, only to have Fairbanks answer with a goal of their own to even the score at 2-2. Jon Carkeek scored his first goal of the season with under 3 minutes to play in the second to give the Jr. Blues a 3-2 lead.
Fairbanks tied the game at 3 early in the third. However, the Jr. Blues continued to battle and scored 3 goals in the final 8 minutes to get the win. Ryan Atkinson scored the first of the 3 goals, Jack Sloan and Mitch Rogge added the final 2, giving the Jr. Blues a 6-3 win. Parker Johnson and Trevor Stone each had 2 assists on the night.
Matt Leon had 27 saves in the win, his 5th consecutive start and win.
Saturday night, The Jr. Blues held on to earn a point in a hostile environment in Fairbanks to finish their Alaskan road trip 3-0-1.
Jeff McFarland got the Jr. Blues out to a 1-0 lead in the first period on a nice chip from Brett Skibba. The Jr. Blues held a 1-0 lead until 9 minutes remaining in the third period when the Ice Dogs were able to capitalize on a powerplay.
Despite being outshot 17-4 in the third period, the Jr. Blues took the game into overtime and finally a shootout. The Ice Dogs scored 2 of thier first 3 shots, while the Jr. Blues were unsuccessful in their 4 attempts.
Ryan Kellenberger was strong in net, stopping 40 of 41 shots.
With the point, the Jr. Blues moved into a tie for fifth place in the North Division.
The Jr. Blues return home this Friday and Saturday to face the Jamestown Ironmen. The puck drops at 7 PM both nights. The Jr. Blues are proud to announce that former Jr. Blues goaltender Mike McKenna will be in attendance Friday night.
