Jr. Blues Beat North Iowa 5-4; Tied For First Place

December 29, 2007 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Springfield Jr. Blues News Release

With five first-period goals, the Jr. Blues hold on to beat the North Iowa Outlaws 5-4 and earn a tie for first place in the Central Division.

Saturdays game was the first of a three-game series with the Outlaws, who headed into the series with a 2 point lead over the Blues.

The Blues found the answer to their anemic power play production with three power play goals in the first period. Kyle Greco scored a power play goal, assisted by Cory Patterson at 2:56 of the period. Taylor Kennedy followed at 10:47 with a goal assisted by Mike Crowder and Jared Rickord. Greco got his second of the night at 12:33, assisted by Steve Mohler and Cory Patterson. Matt Larke continued the first period barrage with the Blue's second power play goal at 16:38 with assists from Matt Globke and Jared Rickord. Newcomer Colin Trachsel concluded the first-period scoring with another power play goal at the 18:09 mark. That goal was assisted by Ritchie Zobak and Kyle Greco.

The Outlaws came back with two unanswered goals in the second and another two in the third, but the Blues held on to win this important game of the 3-game series.

Phil Cook stopped 32 out of 36 shots in the Springfield win.

The two teams face off again Sunday night at 5pm at the North Iowa Ice Arena in Mason City, Iowa.

Notes..... Should the Blues pick up 3 more points in the next two games, they will end the year in sole posession of first place. The first place team gets to place five players on the all-star team and coach Chris Wyler would be named as head coach of that team.
