Cleveland Barons News Release


(Parma, OH)- The Cleveland Barons of the North American Hockey League, were swept in a three game set by the United States National Development Team under 18 squad. The Barons now are in second place in the NAHL North Division ( 5-3-2 , 12 pts). The Barons will be facing their arch rivals from Boardman, OH, the Mahoning Valley Phantoms Saturday October 8th at 7:30PM and Sunday October 9th 3:30 PM at Lakefront Lines Arena in Parma, OH.

Weekly Review (Tuesday, September 27th)- USANDT-18 -6 BARONS-2 :The Barons made their first trip away from Parma, OH to face the USANDT-18 squad in Ann Arbor, MI. Team USA jumped out a 2-0 lead after the first period and never looked back. The Barons were led by forward Carter Camper (Rocky River, OH) with 2 goals. Barons forward Josh Leonard (Allen Park, MI) had 2 assist and defenseman Korey O'Brien (Southgate, MI) had an assist in the contest. Team USA was led by Ryan Flinn (2G, 1A) and Greg Squires (1G, 2A) with three points in the match. Barons goalie Kenny Reiter (Pittsburgh, PA) suffered his first loss of the year, he had 33 saves in the contest.

(Saturday, October 1st)- USANDT 18-10 BARONS-2: The Barons returned Parma, OH for a weekend setoff games against Team USA. The Barons would jump out to a 1-0 lead with josh Leonard scoring a shorthanded goal with Anthony McIntyre (Waterford, MI) picking up the lone assist. Penaties would be the theme of the night following as the two team combined for 110 minute. Team USA would score the next nine goals, six of them of them on the powerplay . Barons forward Josh Leonard would close the scoring out for the home team with his second goal of the game. Carter Camper and Joe Greener (Basingstoke, England) would pick up the assists Team USA was led by Chris Atkinson with 4pts (3G 1A) and Patrick Kane and Bill Sweatt with 3 points each. Barons goalie Bobby Jarosz (Crystal Lake, IL) had 28 saves in the game.

(Sunday, October 2nd)- USANDT 5- BARONS-1: The Barons would jump out to 1-0 lead with Carter Camper scoring on the powerplay, with Josh Leonard and Pat Goebel (Parma, OH)picking up the assists. Team USA would tie the score at one in the last minute of the period on a Michael Ratchuk goal. Team USA would score three goals in the second period and one goal in the third period for the final of 5-1. Team USA was lead by forward Tony Mosey who had 3pts (2G-1A) in the game. Barons goalie Kenny Reiter had 34 saves in the game.

Barons Head Coach John Fritsche stated: "Over the past week we have learned a lot about our team. These are the best junior players in the country; these games will help us be a much better team in the long run. "

MINNESOTA SHOWCASE

The Barons will be participating in the North American Hockey League annual showcase in Blaine, MN October 19-22. The Barons will the face Fargo-Moorhead Jets on the 19th, Helena Bighorns on the 20th, Minnesota Blizzard on the 21st and the Bismarck Bobcats on the 22nd.
